The parade tunic for Infantry Regiment “Großdeutschland” was introduced in 1939 for the grand parade on the occasion of Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday and was worn only this one time. Apart from the officers' tunics, these are all chamber pieces of identical manufacture. During the war, the stored tunics were stripped of their insignia and reissued in simplified form to recruits as barracks uniforms for formal duty and worn. For this reason, only very few pieces have survived in their original 1939 condition.
