The Merit Cross of the German Red Cross Badge of Honor from 1937 ranks between the 1st Class and 2nd Class of the Badge of Honor. The 3rd Form of the Badge of Honor was introduced on April 6, 1937 through statutory amendment. The award of the 3rd Form of the German Red Cross Badge of Honor ended after the establishment of the Badge of Honor for German Public Welfare on July 1, 1939. Due to the very short period of award, these badges of honor are rare. Exact award numbers are not known.

Manufactured by Godet & Co. Berlin. The star body in silver, the applied cross is fitted into the star with separately applied eagle. Reverse with 2 hollow rivets, on convex pin. In large red presentation case with blue silk lining and velvet inlay. Also includes the rare ribbon bar with miniature device. The breast star and ribbon bar with miniature in condition 2+. Case exterior slightly scuffed, on the lid with old inventory label in Italian “.. stella Germania”, condition 2-. From the estate of an Italian diplomat. A very rare decoration set!
The Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross was instituted in 1922. In 1934 it was modified by the President of the DRK, Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and provided with new statutes. After the National Socialists' seizure of power, the statutes were amended again on April 6, 1937 with the approval of the Führer and Reich Chancellor, Adolf Hitler. The design was changed for all classes such that the applied eagle now holds a golden wreath with black swastika in its talons. The award of the 3rd form of the Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross ended after the institution of the Badge of Honor for German National Welfare on July 1, 1939. Due to the very short period of award, these badges are rare.
